In-person 1-day bench masterclass 1 Day (8 bench hours, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) 51 Railway Street, Cowwarr VIC 3858

ASIC Diagnostic & Component-Level Repair Masterclass

Master oscilloscope waveform tracing, faulty ASIC chip isolation, LDO voltage regulator replacement, and hot-air SMD rework on commercial hashboards.

ASIC Diagnostic & Component-Level Repair Masterclass

Who This Is For

Technicians, electronics hobbyists, and mining managers looking to stop shipping broken hashboards overseas for routine chip repairs.

Practical Knowledge & Bench Outcomes

  • Use diagnostic test fixtures and multimeters to trace the 5 basic hashboard signals (CLK, RST, RX, TX, BO)
  • Isolate blown domain voltage chips and replace low-dropout (LDO) regulators
  • Execute high-precision hot air soldering and chip reballing with solder stencils
  • Flash and recover corrupted EEPROM firmware chips on Antminer S19 and Whatsminer M30/M50 series

Curriculum & Session Schedule

Module 1

Signal Path Tracing & Test Fixture Setup

Understanding how clock, reset, and telemetry signals pass through sequential ASIC domains.

Module 2

Thermal Camera Fault Identification

Using FLIR thermal imaging to pinpoint shorted power domains and failing ceramic capacitors.

Module 3

SMD Desoldering & Micro-Soldering Reballing

Temperature curve control, lead-free solder paste application, and stencil alignment under stereo magnification.

Module 4

Bench Validation & EEPROM Verification

Powering boards on an isolated bench tester to verify full chip count and stable frequency response.

Scope & Equipment Exposure

In-depth component-level electronics troubleshooting on damaged hashboards using digital oscilloscopes, soldering stations, and thermal imaging cameras.

What Is Included

  • Individual diagnostic test bench with Rigol digital oscilloscope, hot air station, and microscope
  • Set of practice scrap hashboards and replacement ASIC chips for hands-on soldering
  • Diagnostic reference schematic cheat-sheets for Bitmain and MicroBT boards
  • Catered lunch and technical support documentation

What Is Excluded

  • Personal travel and accommodation
  • Guaranteed repair of attendees' own broken boards (time permitting, one board can be inspected during open lab hour)

Lead Instructor & Prerequisites

Lead Instruction: Lachlan Reid, Lead Hardware Technician.

Preparation: Previous basic soldering experience is recommended but not mandatory.
